Imagine calling a number and you are greeted with a familiar voice. The voice of India’s biggest superstars could be Shahrukh Khan, it could be Amitabh Bachchan. Or someone speaking in your native tongue Tamil, Punjabi, Bengal, Marathi or any language you choose. And then you start a conversation with an AI that is not a bot reading a script, not a person, not a call centre, but an AI trained to talk to you. Such is the world Puch AI is creating. A new, growing world of voice-first AI in 2025, is slowly becoming a part of daily life in India.
We all have used chatbots at some point, we are aware of their functions and limitations. Puch AI is different, it is not your average assistant. It is a familiar digital companion you get to call just like a friend, that is easy to access just like talking to a friend on Whatsapp.
Stepping Into Puch AI’s World
Puch AI is a startup based out of Bengaluru, India founded in June 2025 by Arjit Jain and Siddharth Bhatia. With zero to no funding raised yet. Puch AI is a multilingual, voice-driven artificial intelligence that is accessible through India’s two beloved ways : a phone call and Whatsapp.
It is a voice-first AI assistant that communicates in Indic languages supporting all major accents, so you get to converse in your native language. It also offers features such as image and video generation, and fact-checking solutions. It also provides solutions for many languages, enabling its users to communicate in the preferred language.
Give a call on 9090909090 and when an AI picks up a call sometimes in a celebrity voice, that is ready to answer your question, give explanations, help with tasks or just chat in 22 languages.
We tested out some features of Puch AI while writing the blog, below is a
A Friendly User-Guide: What’s its actually like using Puch AI
(featuring real screenshots from our own conversation)
One of the reasons Puch AI feels so different is not because of what it claims to do but also the experience you get during the process.
Here is a walkthrough of using Puch AI in the real world, with real screenshots from my chat.
1. Chatting in Whatsapp: The most Indian Way to Use it
You can simply say “Hi Puch” on Whatsapp. No login. No setup needed.

2. Asking Puch to Generate Images
This is where the fun starts. You can ask
“Generate an image of a cat with balloon”
Or
“ Generate an image of an dog laying”
(not need for perfect grammar, as Puch understands the prompt)

Sometimes the results are surprisingly good.

Sometimes well, they are in “Beta” and that’s just part of the charm.
Note: Puch AI was not able to generate static images(posters etc) at the time of writing this article.
And sometimes they just don’t work when told again to do the same thing.
3. Trying Out Video Generation
Tell Puch AI to generate any video. Say something like
“Generate a Video of flying Hummingbird”
The video is 6 seconds long and looks pretty realistic, not as uncanny as some AI generated videos.

4. Sticker Creation
Puch can also create custom stickers, something great for Whatsapp groups.
Generate custom stickers with simple prompts.
Made this custom sticker with a one line simple prompt.

But the AI still has its limitations and can falter. Like here the sticker generation stopped in the middle and did not say why it stopped in the middle or if an error occurred.

5. Fact check & News
This is helpful when you want to ask something on the go.
Whether that be News or asking a fact.

Can play wordle but only with a specific command “/wordle”, if you don’t use it results will not show
6. Games (Wordle)
You can also play games.

I tried playing Wordle which only started after the”/wordle” command. Before that Puch kept getting confused and it was not starting the game.
But after the “/wordle” command something like this will come up.

The game will start like this.

7. Multilingual Conversations
Puch AI can chat in 22 languages.
You can ask questions or queries in any language and can switch language mid chat as well.
I switched languages mid-sentence, here’s how Puch AI adapted.

Here’s another example of Puch switching languages mid-sentences.

In total, these features are what makes Puch AI fun. And the fact that it is handy, where you don’t need to open another app makes it all the more useful.
But there were some features that were not working at the time of writing this blog. Like the Shinchanify feature that is mentioned on the website.
The most it did was this:

How People Are Using Puch AI in Real Life
The use cases are surprising human:
- Students call Puch AI to understand homework in their native language.
- Workers can ask for quick information about anything they need.
- Elderly users chat with Puch AI just to practise conversation.
- Small businesses use it to help write messages and create local ads.
- Children use it for stories, fun facts etc.
These interactions are meaningful especially in a country like India as they don’t require a screen or English literacy, which are considered major barriers in India.
Why Puch AI is Creating such a Buzz
It is the experience that it provides that creates such a buzz around it and not just AI.
- It feels natural. You talk, it responds. No need to type, no screens needed, no fear of making mistakes. For many users whose world’s start and end with whatsapp and voice calls, the transformation is simplistic.
- It reaches people who were left out of the AI wave. According to the company, nearly 60% of Puch’s users are first-time AI users. That is not just growth but inclusivity at its finest.
- It speaks in every Indic language Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu etc., Puch AI do not expect its users to adapt but rather have the tech adapt to the users need.
- Listening to a familiar voice creates an instant emotional bridge. It softens the intimidating technology.
Tech that Makes the Magic Happen
Puch AI is powered by using large language models (LLMs) that have the capability of understanding context, emotions, and different accents across India’s vast linguistic diversity.
Its advanced voice generation tools to recreate celebrity voices and multilingual speech recognition to process everything from rural dialects to urban Hinglish.
Puch ditches the usual polished tone of an AI assistant and tries to sound more conversational. You can just simply ask to explain something in a friendly way, to narrate a story, or just have a casual chat.
Unexpected Twist: India’s Viral Internship
The internships offered made a nationwide buzz when Puch announced that they are hiring for the company.
The company in 2025 offered internships offering Rs. 1- 2 lakh per month for remote internships,
- No degree required.
- No fixed background.
- Even 10th graders could apply
These internships were for “AI Engineering Intern” & “Growth Magician”.
And suddenly, Puch was not just an AI startup. It propped them up into the big leagues, some saw it as a way to tap into the raw talent present in India while others saw it as a marketing gimmick. But one thing is for certain it got people talking about Puch AI.
Room for Improvements
Just like every other new tech that comes into market, Puch AI too has its critics.
Prompt Issues
People have pointed out that Puch can be tricked (sometimes) into revealing internal and sensitive details. Even when it says that it can create it for you, asks you to confirm it, the AI is still unable to answer and then just gives steps on how to get it done. Give no further explanation if it stops in the middle of doing a task, and you have to start the whole thing again. It forgets all previous context of the prompts or conversation.

Transparency Debates
Some have claimed that Puch AI runs on open-source models like the Gemma 7B rather than having a fully indigenous model.
Although the company has said that the system is self-hosted, the debate continues.
Privacy Issues
Voice interactions have made users question the data storage.
- Who stores the audio?
- How secured is the stored audio?
- For how much time?
These concerns are valid and highlight the need to responsibly scale Puch AI.
What sets Puch AI Apart
In the ever growing scale of the AI landscape, India’s AI is projected to reach $7.8 billion by 2025. Puch AI is different from the normal AI tools accessible to the public as most AI tools behave like efficient machines that are quick, correct and helpful. But they lack in providing a personalised experience.
Puch AI bridges this gap, it is more personal like having a conversation. It feels like using a tool and more being part of simple, friendly dialogue. The difference that makes Puch AI stand out from the rest is because it tries to be familiar while other AI assistants try to be smart.
The Future of Puch AI is Building
With the growing speed of India’s AI market, Puch AI is at an interesting point where it can cease a great opportunity and bear a great responsibility.
If it continues to improve its safety, transparency and language capabilities. It has the potential of becoming
- a companion for learning
- a voice tutor
- a digital guide for rural India
- a friendly AI you can call anytime
But most importantly, it can make AI reachable for millions who have never used it before.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Puch AI can become more than just an AI tool that shifts how India communicates with technology. Having an AI that speaks like us, listens like us makes the users feel close to home. Puch AI shows that artificial intelligence does not have to be futuristic or intimidating, it can be something as simple as a phone call.
In a world where everyone seems to be living their lives online all the time, making it complex and a mess for one’s mental space. Puch AI differentiates itself by being deeply local, accessible and human.
The accessibility and ease in using Puch makes it unique. Its easy features that can communicate in 22 languages is by far the best part about Puch AI. The sticker creation is the second best feature though a little choppy but still works great. And the rest of the features like Image and Video generation are at par with other AI tools available in the market.
The simplistic nature of Puch AI makes it so great.
And in this simplicity lies the start of India’s own AI revolution.
